Amitabh Bachchan made a comeback with the film ‘Mrityudaata’ released in 1997 after a gap of almost 5 years. The director of this movie was Mehul Kumar. Amitabh Bachchan asked for work from the director
During a conversation on YouTube channel Friday Talkies, Mehul Kumar said, ‘It was the music launch of Rangeela. I was at that event and I met Amitabh Bachchan there. He asked me, Sir, don’t you have some hot script? I asked for whom, he said for me. At that time he was not doing films. I said that I have the script. I thought that such things keep happening in parties, I did not take that discussion too seriously.’
Amitabh’s comeback film was a flop
Mehul Kumar further said, ‘The next day I got a call from his (Amitabh Bachchan) office and I was asked about the conversation at the party. After this our meeting was fixed. I told him the story of the film Mrityudaata, which he liked. He agreed to work in the film. We made the film in 6 months. It was Amitabh Bachchan’s comeback film. This was a big thing for me, because I had also made Raj Kumar’s comeback film.’ However, after release, ‘Mrityudaata’ did not get a good response from the audience and the film flopped at the box office.
