Kannada Lineman Movie Review: The month of March has brought a lot of entertainment for cinema lovers. In the first week of March, about two dozen films in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam were released, the second week is also similar. On March 15, the Telugu film ‘Razakar’ is being discussed a lot. Directed by Yata Satyanarayana and produced by Guduru Narayan Reddy, ‘Razakar’ has been released in many southern languages including Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam along with Marathi and Hindi apart from Telugu. It is based on the Hyderabad massacre. It is being considered the most controversial film after ‘The Kashmir Files’.

Well, if you are interested in comedy amidst a shocking film like Razakar, then director and writer V Raghu Shastri has brought for you the Kannada film ‘Lineman’. This film can also be seen in Telugu. At present, the era of real stick cinema is going on. Films with real stories and a meaningful message are being liked a lot. ‘Lineman’ is not 100% based on a real incident, but the director has made a successful attempt to weave some truths i.e. incidents around him in the film.

This comedy-drama film of about 2 hours is the story of a village where people decide to live without electricity to save some lives. How much this effort helps the villagers and how many problems it creates, the story of the lineman is woven around these funny situations. The film is made in a satirical style.

Thrigun A is playing the role of a lineman in the film. He was earlier known as Adith Arun. Other actors in the film include Kajal Kunder, B Jayashree and Harini Srikanth. The film is produced by Yatish Venkatesh and Ganesh Pappana. Music is given by Manikanth Kadri. Cinematography is by Shanthi Sagar HG.

As far as V Raghu Shastri’s vision is concerned, he first came up with the Kannada film Run Antony as a writer-director in 2016. Lineman is his second film. Raghu has been an assistant to famous Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap. He also worked on the Kannada web series Loose Connection. Anurag Kashyap’s influence is visible in Raghu’s films.

Whether it is Anurag Kashyap’s Black Friday or Gangs of Wasseypur… while watching his films it feels as if the incident is from our neighbourhood. In this film of V Raghu too, we can see ‘anurag’ and respect towards his guru i.e. Anurag.

You will be shocked and troubled just by thinking about living without electricity in the present times. From mobile to TV, fridge-fan and all other essential things are useless without electricity. ‘Lineman’ gives a meaningful message that how people have become completely dependent on technology and other material things in the race for comforts. How humans have turned their priorities in the wrong direction. Raghu Shastri has picked up this message very well. The film reminds us of the time when people used to live their lives happily without electricity. They did not have equipment or gadgets like mobile-TV then, yet they were happy. They used to cherish their dreams even in the lantern era. They used to resort to traditional games for entertainment. They used to sit together and gossip, share their joys and sorrows… but in the ‘Electricity era’ everything got drowned in darkness.

However, Thrigun has impressed with his acting in the role of Junior Powerman i.e. Lineman. Made under the banner of Purple Rock Entertainment, V Raghu says that the story of the film was written during the lockdown.

Since the story of the film is based on rural environment, the audience will like the location. South Indian cinema is showing rural areas very well. Hindi cinema has also started following this again. This can be called a good initiative to connect the audience with their country and their soil.

Raghu has done most of the shooting of Lineman in Chandakwadi of Chamaraj Nagar, his hometown. The film has been appreciated in Bangalore Film Festival. The music of the film represents traditional music. The film has also turned out well in terms of cinematography. This film is a good option for those who keep thinking about their country and society along with entertainment.
