New Delhi. Bollywood’s veteran actress Hema Malini’s film ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’ was much talked about. Her strong performance in it was praised a lot. She won the hearts of the people with her acting. Dharmendra and Sanjeev Kumar were also seen in the film ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’. The audience showered a lot of love on this film released in the year 1972. But do you know that not Hema Malini, but Mumtaz was the first choice of the makers for this film. This has been revealed by famous filmmaker Ramesh Sippy.

Hema Malini played a double role in ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’, but initially this film was first offered to Mumtaz. Ramesh Sippy told that ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’ writers Salim-Javed (Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar) initially had doubts about Hema Malini whether she would be able to play the character or not. The filmmaker told that initially he wanted to make the film ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’ with Mumtaz.

Mumtaz was the first choice for the film
On Arbaaz Khan’s YouTube show Invincibles, Ramesh Sippy said, ‘When we decided to make the film, it seemed that Mumtaz would be the best choice, but she was busy shooting for many films and I could not wait much.’ After this, it was decided to cast Hema Malini in ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’, but Salim-Javed did not trust her talent.

Salim-Javed had doubts about Hema’s talent
Ramesh Sippy said, ‘Salim-Javed asked me, are you sure? Does she have such a personality that she will be able to play Geeta’s role, Sita’s role is still okay.’ However, this notion of Salim Javed proved to be wrong and Hema Malini gave a strong performance in the film. She also won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for the film.

Hema Malini was a hit in the role of Basanti
It is worth noting that after ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’, Ramesh Sippy cast Hema Malini in the film ‘Sholay’ (1975). She once again made a special place in the hearts of the audience with her acting in the role of Basanti. Stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Amjad Khan and Sanjeev Kumar were seen in important roles in this movie.
