Malayalam cinema has brought 3 major films this time. Action and drama- Badal: The Manifesto, horror and thriller- L and drama- Chappakuthu.
Kannada film Avatar Purush-2 is in a lot of discussions. This 2 hour 4 minute long film is an action-fantasy and thriller. The film is directed by Simple Suni. The producer is Pushkar Mallikarjunaiya. Sharan, Saikumar, Ashika Ranganath, Sudharani, Sadhu Kokila and veteran Hindi cinema actor Ashutosh Rana are in the lead roles in this sequel.
If we talk about the story of the film first, then it is based on dark magic. The film has been made in a light-hearted manner, so that the audience does not feel bored. ‘Avatar Purush 2’, presented as a comedy-drama, was earlier supposed to release on March 22, but due to some reasons the date had to be changed to April 5.
‘Avatar Purush 2’ is told to be an original story. It is a different matter that it keeps some aspects of Part-1 together. However, there are many interesting twists in the story. The first part of this sequel was released on May 6, 2022 under the name Astadigbandanamadalakam.
After the Hollywood film series Harry Potter, which created a worldwide sensation in the fantasy and drama genre, many films were made following its example. From Bollywood to South Cinema, everyone created fantasy dramas on the lines of Harry Potter. Some were successful in this attempt, while some failed.
Aadipurush-2 takes this tradition forward. However, it has a desi tadka. As the characters of the serial ‘Ramayana’, which became popular in every household in the early days of television, used to use weapons by shaking hands or blowing, this trick is still adopted in Hindi cinema. This practice has been shown in witchcraft for centuries. This was also seen in Aadipurush-2.
Background music has a big impact in fantasy and horror films. If we talk about this film made under the banner of ‘Pushkar Films’ and ‘Mohan Films’, then Arjun Janya’s hard work is visible. The music keeps the audience engaged. But there is nothing new in the music.
The VFX of the film are fine. Abhishek M has worked on them. The work of cinematographer William David and editor Manu Shedgar is also good. There is nothing new in the story of the film, but Suni and Sheelam M Swamy along with their team have tried to make it entertaining.
The formula of the film is old. The plot is based on medieval India. In this, the younger son of a family named Ram Jois goes to visit a fair. Suddenly he goes missing from the ancient temple built there. The story revolves around this incident. The story shows the conspiracies to acquire a Trishanku stone that has magical powers.
The stunt choreography of the film is by Vikram More. They have been done well. Costume designer Arundhati Anjanappa had to work very hard in this film. The work of art director Ullas Haider is also visible.
For the viewers who liked its Part-1, this is an entertaining film. But those who rejected Part-1 may not like this either. However, those who like the magical world, ghosts and mysterious stories can watch it once. As far as acting is concerned, everyone has tried to give a better performance.
It is generally being propagated that the making of Kannada films in South Cinema is not as good as expected. However, producer Pushkar Mallikarjunaiah argues that when you watch his film, you will know with what grandeur he has made this film.
Everyone likes mythological stories, this film is also an attempt to cash in on that. Sharan is good at comedy, but there was nothing special for him to do in Avatar Purush-2. An attempt has been made to scare the audience with black magic in the film, but it creates boredom at some places. At many places the scenes seem scattered. Anyway, the film is not so bad that it cannot be watched. If Avatar Purush-2 is not compared to a film like Harry Potter, then it can be watched sitting down.
